But our time was short lived...It was easy to tell when the meds wore off, Devin wasn't his usual happy go lucky self and was having more trouble walking and staying upright. This time I was in the grocery store with a basket full of groceries when the call came...but from Colleen's voice... I knew Devin wouldn't be coming home this time. So I left my basket in the middle of the aisle and rushed home. Colleen already had him in her van but his breathing was very labored and his gums were a ghastly white. We got to the vet and there was no decision to be made...we knew it was time to say farewell. He never really came out of it this time. Colleen held his head in her lap and I patted him and talked to him softly. But Devin was a fighter to the end. I have to think he had the largest heart ever and not from SAS or any other Boxer related heart disease, as up until 5 months before his passing, he was the healthiest dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing...His enlarged heart was for his love of life and his Colleen. No dog who loved that much, enjoyed every meal he got, loved to play as he did....could have ever had a normal size heart....And I'm hoping my heart is a little larger for being able to share these last 8 months with him.
So this is not goodbye, my sweet "Bubba"....this is so long until I see you again.

Sorry this is so long but sometimes it takes a long time to say farewell.
